Swatches - The Battle of the Red Lippies (GOSH Cosmetics vs. e.l.f.)

I think it's safe to say that make-up lovers have this tiny problem of buying, or rather collecting, all kinds of products they don't necessarily need. And I think one of the products we like to collect are red lipsticks. Why? I'm not really sure. I'm guessing it's because we want to know how each brand stacks up to one another. Or maybe it's because we need a different red for every mood. Who really knows? I stopped trying to justify my obsession with make-up ages ago.

Today I'm featuring just two of the red lipsticks I have in my collection. Both are drugstore brands and are very affordable.

The first is GOSH Cosmetics Velvet Touch Lipstick in 60 Lambada. It retails for £6.49 at Superdrug, which is where I bought mine. I don't wear this often because I'm not so keen on the glossy finish, but the color itself is great. I tend to like the warmer looking reds.

The next is the e.l.f. Studio Matte Lip Color in Rich Red. It retails for just $3 on their website and wherever e.l.f. products are sold. I bought this under the recommendation of my friend Laura. She was raving about it and since it's super cheap, I thought I'd give it a try. This is actually a lip crayon. Now I think I'm pretty good at applying lipstick straight from the tube without lipliner, but for whatever reason, I just cannot do it with lip crayons. They bug me out for some reason, haha. This looks a little bit more "blue" on my lips which I'm not particularly fond of so I have to always mix it in with something a little warmer (Revlon's Kiss Me Coral usually does the trick).

Anyway, I wasn't really sure where I was going with this blog post. I don't even know that I can declare a real "winner" from this "battle." Just go look at the swatches. I'm tired.

  1. Lol Lip crayons do take some getting used to. I do like that the Elf one comes with a little sharpener at the end so I sharpen the tip whenever I feel like I cannot apply it well with a dull tip. :)
